QUICK FACTS

In the Philippines, LGBTQ+ rights are a complex and evolving landscape. While same-sex relationships are not criminalized, and the country has seen significant strides in LGBTQ+ visibility and acceptance, there is still a notable absence of comprehensive legal protections. However, LGBTQ+ communities thrive in major cities, with pride events, advocacy groups, and supportive spaces gaining ground. Activists continue to push for legal reforms and greater equality, and the growing visibility and acceptance in popular culture reflect a society that is increasingly open to change.

While the country is known for its friendly and hospitable culture, and major cities and tourist destinations are increasingly open and inclusive, there are still some challenges. In popular tourist spots like Manila, Cebu, Boracay, and Palawan, LGBTQ+ travellers are generally welcomed, and these areas often have thriving LGBTQ+ communities and venues. However, in more rural or conservative areas, travellers might face social attitudes that are less accepting.

5. Manila
Manila is a dynamic fusion of historical grandeur and modern flair, where colonial-era churches stand alongside sleek high-rises. Its vibrant street markets, cultural landmarks, and energetic nightlife offer a captivating blend of tradition and contemporary excitement.

4. Bohol – Chocolate Hills
Bohol’s Chocolate Hills are a surreal and picturesque natural wonder that formed from dead coral millions of years ago. Their perfectly conical peaks are blanketed in lush green and turn to a rich, chocolate-brown hue during the dry season.

3. Cebu
Cebu is a unique city that boasts historic landmarks like Magellan’s Cross alongside bustling shopping districts and energetic nightlife. Its beautiful surrounding islands and beaches offer a tropical paradise, making it a gateway to both cultural exploration and relaxation.

2. Boracay
Boracay is renowned for its pristine White Beach, where powdery white sand meets crystal-clear turquoise waters, creating an idyllic tropical haven. Of course, this is exactly why the gays love it! As one of the most liberal and accepting places in The Philippines, LGBTQ+ culture is an important part of the island’s identity. Recently, the government temporarily closed the island to tourism for a 6-month period for environmental restoration, but it’s now back open and better than ever!

1. Palawan
Palawan is a tropical gem known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, crystal-clear lagoons, and pristine white-sand beaches, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Its majestic landscapes, from the breathtaking Bacuit Archipelago to the serene beauty of El Nido and Coron, offer unparalleled opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

Best Time to Visit: Between December and early March, when temperatures range from 75°F to 88°F. During this period, the entire country, including its islands and remote regions, is fully accessible. While the dry season extends from November to April, temperatures soar during mid-March and April.
